South African Fisheries Scientist Awarded Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun
For his work on conservation and management of bluefin tuna, Emeritus professor Doug Butterworth from the University of Cape Town was given Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, yesterday in Cape Town.
The award was established in 1875 by the Japanese government and recognizes people around the world who have made distinguished contributions to Japan. It is the third highest order bestowed by the Japanese government and the highest ordinarily conferred order.
