Asia Overtakes UK as Ireland's 2nd Largest Seafood Export Partner
The Irish Business of Seafood Board (BIM) reported that exports to Asia, mostly China, have overtaken Irish seafood exports to the UK.
The value of shellfish grew significantly during the year, driven by demand in the Chinese market. Prices grew 41% for crab, 22% for Dublin Bay prawns and 13% for oysters.
Also, 2018 was a year with less salmon production due to the growth cycles at Irish farms, and also a year of poor mackerel production.
