FFAW Argues that Reference Point for Newfoundland Cod is Out of Date
The DFO held a technical briefing in Newfoundland yesterday on the Limit reference point for Northern Cod.
Under Canadian fisheries management, this is the key determination that tells whether a fishery is in a ‘critical’ or cautious zone, similar to NOAA’s concept of whether a species is overfished.
The purpose of the meeting in St. John’s was to evaluate how the Limit Reference Point for northern cod was developed, and whether it is still appropriate.
