China has followed through with threats to impose a punitive tariff on American soybean imports in retaliation for the continued escalation of the US trade war with China.
The tariffs are not immediate, but will go into effect at a later date depending on US actions.
Soymeal is a key component of animal feed, and has seen rapidly growing use in aquaculture as well.
The tariff of 25% is bad news for American soy farmers. China is their largest export market. At the same time, China has access to alternative supplies from Brazil.
