Stone crabs may have a harder time keeping up their population if the effects of climate change continue to blast marine environments.
A first-of-its-kind study published in the Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology suggests that ocean acidification -- a facet of climate change that happens when there's more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, making pH levels in water decrease -- may harm the reproduction of stone crabs, or Menippe mercenaria.
