Bering Sea Snow Crab Season Half Over, Tanner Crab TAC is 82% Landed

After an unsteady start on snow (opilio) crab in the Bering Sea, the fleet passed a halfway mark last Friday, landing over 9.5 million pounds out of 18.96 mlbs available. During the same week last season, the fleet had landed 69% of the TAC, which was 21.57 mlbs.
The number of crabs per pot have been reported at 150-250 with a cumulative catch per unit effort (CPUE) of 163. This compares with 157 for this week during the 2016-2017 season.
