Inside Waters of Southeast Alaska Now Open for Pacific Cod, GHL Same as Last Year

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has set a guideline harvest range of 750,000 – 1,250,000 pounds round weight for Pacific cod in a season that opened January 1, 2018.
The harvest range is unchanged from 2017.
The Southeast Alaska directed Pacific cod fishery is open year round unless closed by ADF&G emergency order earlier.
Allowable gear includes longline, dinglebar troll gear, hand troll gear, mechanical jigging machines, and pots.
ADF&G monitors the catch of P-cod by geographic area to prevent localized depletion and overharvest of spawning aggregations. The resource is managed by closing specific areas as necessary to distribute effort and harvest throughout Northern Southeast Inside (NSEI) waters and the Southern Southeast (SSEI) Subdistrict.
