IFFO Explains the Forage Fish Dependency Ratio and its Impact on Responsible Aquaculture

The International Fishmeal and Fish Oil organization has published a research paper that analyzes the forage fish dependency ratio (FFDR) in an attempt to clarify how that number is calculated and what it means when determining the actual sustainability of a farmed fishery.
According to IFFO the term FFDR is confusing because it incorrectly assuming that the species used in marine ingredient production would have higher value to society in other areas such as direct consumption markets, or by environmental benefits through conservation.
