One Area Remains Closed to Crabbing in California; Oregon to Discuss Options for Opening

California state agencies opened more areas to commercial Dungeness crabbing late Tuesday as samples show domoic acid levels in crab have dropped.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released the following information at close to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20:
Open area No. 1: From near Salt Point, Sonoma County, 38 34.5' N. Lat., north to the Sonoma/Mendocino County line, 38 46.1' N. Lat., at 2:01 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. Crabbers can begin setting their gear for an 18-hour pre-soak period at 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23.
Open area No. 2: From the Sonoma/Mendocino County line, 38 46.1' N. Lat., north to 38 57.5' N. Lat., near Point Arena, and from 40 01' N. Lat., near Shelter Cove, to the north jetty of the Humboldt Bay entrance, at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 26. Crabbers can set their gear for 64-hour pre-soak period beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 23.
