Despite Claims of Ecommerce Platforms in China, Many Problems with Seafood Delivery Not Solved

During the GOAL conference 2016, Mr Meng, the general manager of project development in the Fresh Business Unit at JD.com, has pointed out that there are four challenges for online fresh e-commerce in China. They are low penetration, fierce competition, lack of clear profitable models and numerous copycats. These are all good points, however, Mr Meng may have missed one very important challenge for this industry, which is the cold chain.
According to Meng, JD is has a competitive advantage in its cold chain network, which covers more than 100 cities. JD delivers over 85% of direct sales orders within the ordering day or in the next day. And Mr Liu, JD’s CEO, has also mentioned that JD cold chain network intends to cover over one thousand cities within this year, while the company owns over ten refrigerated warehouses and 3,300 delivery stations currently.
