Gulf of Mexico Council Extends Ban on Issuing Commercial Shrimp Fishing Permits to 2026

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council finalized an extension on a moratorium from issuing commercial shrimp fishing permits in the Gulf to 2026.
The Amendment17A rule will take effect on August 22 and is an extension to a ten year ban that was originally entered in the region’s commercial Shrimp Fishery Management Plan in October 2006 and was slated to expire this fall.
