Lower Prices Spur Sales of Ikura, Sujiko roe in Japan, Pollock Roe Sales Stagnant

Lower prices for ikura and sujiko salmon roe have spurred a 30% sales jump in the Tsukuji market in April, according to Japanese reports.
The average unit price in April fell to Y4,345 per kilo, down Y124 from March or nearly 10% less compared to a year before.
This has stimulated sales, with volume up to 156 tons, or 33.3% over the same month last year.
For sujiko, the average unit price in April was 22.5% lower at Y1,897 per kilo than in 2015, but still rose from March, which caused a slight sales decline. Before the transition to new-season North American products, domestic inventory now centers predominantly on high-priced No.1 grade sockeye sujiko, and sellers are trying not to get saddled with this inventory ...
