US Seafood Imports from Malaysia at Virtual Stand Still After FDA Warnings

America has issued an import warning against shrimps from Malaysia. Through March, total imports of shrimp, crab, and other seafood items from Malaysia are down 93% from the same period in 2015. The only product unaffected is Tilapia, which is at roughly the same level as last year.
It is reported that relevant institutions in Malaysia have required the FDA to elaborate on its import warning against shrimps from Malaysia owing to these seafood’s containing banned antibiotics.
These contaminated frozen shrimps are traded between individuals and this incident has nothing to do with such governmental departments as the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Ministry of Health, according to Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture.
