Restaurant Industry Contracted Sharply in December, RPI Falls to Lowest level in 3 years

After a bright start to the year, with optimism and traffic growth, things have softened dramatically for the restaurant industry in the 4th quarter.
The December Restaurant Performance Index, which is compiled by the National Restaurant Association, and measures growth or contraction of sales and traffic, fell below hundred for the first time since February 2013.
Operators repoted a net decline in same store sales in December for the first time in nearly three years.
