Silver Bay Seafoods Pauses Processing in Cordova, AK, Blaming Low Salmon Forecasts in 2026

Last Friday, Silver Bay Seafoods, a leading processor in Alaska, announced that it will not be processing fish in Cordova, home port for the fleet of more than 800 gill netters and seiners that harvest salmon from the Copper River and Prince William Sound, due to low forecasted returns in both areas.  

But the Sitka, AK and Seattle, WA-based processor will be buying fish from the Cordova fleet, transporting the catch to either Valdez or Seward for processing at Silver Bay's facilities there...

USDA Purchases $13.7M in Pollock, Catfish and Canned Salmon for Domestic Programs

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) purchased roughly $13.7 million worth of pollock, catfish and canned salmon products for use in domestic food distribution programs.

The USDA initially released a solicitation to sell various salmon, pollock and catfish products on November 25. In the end, the USDA bought 1.75 million pounds of seafood for $13,694,519.36.

Specifically, the USDA purchased 1,8000 cases of frozen Atlantic pollock fillets for $500,400; along with various frozen Alaska pollock products for a combined $2.3 million...

Trident, Silver Bay Awarded $2.8 Million via USDA Contracts for Pollock 

Trident Seafoods and Silver Bay Seafoods were awarded contracts via the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for frozen Alaska pollock products.  

The Washington-based companies will sell the USDA 39,600 pounds of frozen Alaska pollock fillets for $2.83 million.  

Trident took home the bulk of the contract, $2.3 million. Meanwhile, the USDA will buy over $522,000 worth of Alaska pollock from Silvery Bay Seafoods.

USDA Picks Silver Bay for Canned Salmon Contract

Silver Bay Seafoods won a US Department of Agriculture (USDA) contract for 100 metric tons of canned pink salmon for $877,000.

The product will be destined for Sri Lanka via the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program that supports education, child development, and food security in low-income, food-deficient countries around the globe.

Rodger May, Former Peter Pan Seafoods Chief, Wins Final Court Battle For Assets 

After a highly contested receivers’ auction outcome earlier this year for the remaining assets of bankrupt Peter Pan Seafoods, a final courtroom decision was handed down last Friday confirming that all of the iconic processors’ intellectual property, including the names and logo, will go to former CEO Rodger May.
