Long John Silver’s, a long-time seafood chain, has moved chicken to the front and center.

The company revealed a new logo that replaces its signature fish logo with a chicken and features a new “CHICKEN + SEAFOOD" lock-up.

ICES Slashes Atlantic Mackerel Quota by 70%, Severely Impacts the Japanese Market

According to a report in the Minato Shimbun, on September 30th, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) recommended that the 2026 catch of Atlantic mackerel in the Northeast Atlantic be reduced by 70% from the 2025 figure of 576,958 tons to 174,357 tons. This is the lowest recommended quota since 1998. In Japan, the largest export market for Norway, the sales price has already reached a record high of 880 yen/kg ($5.87/kg)...

Demers Food Group recalled select Scott & Jon's Shrimp Scampi with Linguini products as part of a larger Listeria monocytogenes outbreak linked to pre-cooked pasta, according to a notice published on the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website.

Maine-based eel producer, American Unagi, filed for Chapter 11 protection in the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine on September 29.

Chilean Salmon Trade Group Works With Authorities to Avert Russia Seafood Export Clash

Consejo del Salmón, a salmon trade association, has begun working with both Chilean and international authorities to resolve export challenges threatening seafood shipments to Russia. The move follows a warning from Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) to Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) last month regarding several regulatory violations.

NMFS Extends Northeast Multispecies Emergency Measures to Protect New England Groundfish Industry

On October 3, NOAA Fisheries signed a temporary rule that extended emergency management measures for the Northeast Multispecies Fishery through April 30, 2026.

The rule will allow for the continued operation of the Northeast groundfish sector during the 2025 fishing year.

Russia Eyes India as Key Market for Seafood Exports

Sea Lice Outbreak Strikes Mowi Newfoundland Farms Again, 470,000 Fish Die 

Salmon farming giant Mowi, and its Mowi Canada East arm, said that it lost another 470,000 fish due to sea lice infestations in Newfoundland and Canada, roughly a month after the company reported a similar sized die-off at other farms in the province.

Sea Port Products Adds to Recalls Linked to Radioactive Contamination in Indonesian Shrimp 

Sea Port Products Corp., of Kirkland, Washington recalled “very small volumes” to retailers in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon, Washington State and American Samoa, over Cesium-137 (Cs-137) contamination concerns.

Salmon Bycatch Reduction Efforts Use AI in Bering Sea Pollock Fishery

Meet YOLOv11, a model used to detect and identify salmon bycatch in the pollock trawl fishery in the Bering Sea. YOLOv11, which stands for You Only Look Once, version 11, was highly accurate and accomplished it more quickly than humans can.
