Ready Seafood Settles Lobster Industry Lawsuit with Former Employees, Packers Pride

Ready Seafood, a Maine-based lobster company, and its former employees, Andrew Daughan and Robert Kragh, along with their new venture, Packers Pride USA, have agreed to settle a lawsuit over competitive business practices per a notice filed in court on August 8.

The litigation centered on Ready Seafood’s allegations that Daughan and Kragh violated employment agreements and misused confidential information to launch Packers Pride as a direct competitor, as Expana reported last month.

NOAA Adds to Scientific Armada with New Mapping Ship Bound for Alaska

This Thursday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will host a keel-laying ceremony in Houma, Louisiana marking the beginning of construction for an ocean-floor mapping vessel that will be home-ported in Ketchikan when finished.

Last Friday, President Trump announced that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska to discuss first steps towards a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The meeting will be held on Friday, August 15.

Ag Sec Rollins Announces $6M in Grants to Rid Chesapeake Bay of Invasive Blue Catfish

US Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins yesterday announced the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is making $6 million in grant funding available for seafood processors to expand operations, transform the food supply chain and create new and better markets for the processing of invasive, wild-caught catfish.  

USDA, in partnership with the Maryland Department of Agriculture, is also launching a one-year pilot program to purchase up to $2 million through Section 32 of Chesapeake Bay...

USCG Rescues Four Crew From Sinking Vessel in Gulf of Alaska

Last Tuesday, US Coast Guard rescued four crewmen from a 110-foot vessel described as a “tug” about 130 miles south of Cordova, AK. The four crew, brought by helicopter to Cordova’s medical facilities, sustained no injuries.  

The Coast Guard’s first radio communication was received at around 10:17 a.m. on August 5 that the 110-foot “tug” Sea Ranger was taking on water. DoorDash Reports Record Results for Q2 FY2025

DoorDash delivered record performance in the second quarter of its fiscal year, achieving new highs in total orders, Marketplace GOV, and revenue. Total orders climbed 20% year-over-year (YOY), while Marketplace GOV increased 23% to $24.2 billion. Revenue surged 25% YoY to $3.3 billion.

Japan: Industry Cautious Over High Ikura Prices Amid 36% Decrease in Hokkaido Fall Chum Forecast

Premium Brands Sets Q2 Sales Record, But Clearwater Seafoods Posts Loss

Canadian seafood firm Clearwater Seafoods reported a dip in revenue and earnings during the second quarter of 2025, while Clearwater’s parent company, Premium Brands Holdings, posted record revenues and an increase in EBITDA compared to the same quarter last year.
