ANALYSIS: Shrimp Wholesale Momentum Slows as Retail Pass-Through Remains Uncertain

The recent uptrend in US wholesale shrimp prices has lost momentum over the past few weeks. Several offers have retracted from the initial spike — a pattern similar to what happened after the April hike, when wholesale levels slowed sharply from mid‑May through June. Replacement costs, however, remain high and are unlikely to fall in the near term; if retailers do not pass those costs to consumers, we should expect further margin compression...

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has designated 13 Aquaculture Opportunity Areas (AOAs) totaling more than 21,000 acres in federal waters of the Gulf of America and off the coast of Southern California.

NOAA said the latest AOAs fulfill President Donald Trump’s 2020 Executive Order, ‘Promoting American Seafood Competitiveness and Economic Growth,’ and his more recent 2025 Executive Order,  'Restoring American Seafood Competitiveness.’

“These areas will strengthen the nation’s seafood industry, reduce reliance on foreign imports, and create high-quality American jobs,” NOAA Fisheries said in its...

Coffee, Cocoa, Tea, and More Added to List of Potential Tariff Adjustments for Aligned Partners

As of September 5, products like coffee, cocoa, and tea (along with hundreds more) may be exempt from US reciprocal tariffs if a country’s leaders make a deal with the US trade team, according to a White House fact sheet that specifies exemptions for trading partners that make substantial, reciprocal commitments to mitigate the national emergency-inducing trade-deficit.

To date, market participants watched as deals with the European Union and Indonesia provided a vague mention towards exemptions for “natural resources” like EU cork...

The European Union has released its latest trade data for July 2025, indicating that shrimp imports in the EU-UK region continue to rise, reaching a record high for this time of year—67,340 metric tons, valued at €430.0 million. This marks a significant year-over-year increase of 13.0% in volume and 8.6% in value. The imported volume is also 20.8% above the five-year July average. The uptick in imports aligns with the seasonal trend in which European importers schedule deliveries to replenish inventories after the...

The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council (WPRFMC) voted to reopen commercial fishing in four US Pacific marine national monuments on September 16, advancing a Trump administration push to restore fishing access in the region.

US President Donald Trump and his administration have paused reciprocal tariffs on most countries.

“Based on the lack of respect that China has shown... I am hereby raising the [tariff] charged to China by the [USA] to 125%, effective immediately,” wrote Trump on Truth Social at 1:18 pm ET.

It’s not clear if this 125% is in addition to the 20% imposed on Chinese imports to the US. In early March, Trump noted that he would add another 10% tariff on Chinese goods...
