Hokkaido Scallop Exports Fall due to Sluggish Demand, High Prices

The latest Japanese export figures show a very different picture for Hokkaido scallop exports than a year ago.
Last year, total exports reached 13,600 tons, to primary markets in the US and China (with some Chinese products coming through Vietnam.)
This year, according to the Hokkaido Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, the total exports are likely to be in the 9,000 ton range.
Through August of 2015, only 4239 tons were shipped, vs. 5710 tons last year....
