There will be a lot less Bering Sea snow crab to go around this season as the ADF&G has slashed the 2015 and 2016 Opilio quota 40 percent to 40.6 million pounds.
This is a 27 million pound cut to the catch compared to last year’s 67.9 million pound TAC.
The quota is divided between IFQ and CDQ groups. This season’s IFQ share is set at 36.5 million pounds; about 25 million pounds short of last year’s quota. The CDQ allocation will be 4 million pounds, 2.7 million pounds short of last year.
