Recreational Fishers Organize To Fight Australian Trawler

Hundreds of people yesterday joined a rally in Perth, in the state’s North, to protest about the Geelong Star trawler fishing in the Australian small pelagic fishery.
Organised by the Stop the Super Trawler Alliance, a second rally was held in Hobart yesterday as several hundred fishers were on the water from 10am for a noon boat rally near Elizabeth St Pier.
Launched this week, the Australian Recreational Fishers Party aims to represent the state’s 120,000 recreational fishers.
Tuna Club of Tasmania president John Edwards said many more signed up to the party at yesterday’s rally.
