Renowned Pianist-Composer Rzewski Plays Free Recital Upstairs at Wholey's Fish Market in Pittsburgh

Count the Strip District institution among Pittsburgh’s great concert venues. On Saturday afternoon, renowned pianist and composer Frederic Rzewski gave a free performance of one of his most important works, “The People United Will Never Be Defeated,” in the shop’s upstairs dining area.
The American composer, 77, lives in Belgium but regularly visits his sons in Pittsburgh. Last year, he gave a recital during the Pittsburgh Festival of New Music.
One of his sons works at Wholey’s, and his boss suggested that Mr. Rzewski perform at the market sometime.
