Indonesia's New Fisheries Conservation Regulations Spark Fishermen's Protest at President's Palace

JAKARTA, New ministerial decrees aimed at protecting fishery stocks and a lack of industry consultation led to a rare backlash against the new government of President Joko Widodo last week.
"Susi is an enemy of people," shouted fishermen and their supporters, who assembled in front of the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries Affairs and the presidential palace on Thursday. "The minister should resign!" they chanted.
About 5,000 protesters descended on the government offices to show their anger over new regulations introduced by Susi Pudjiastuti, minister of maritime fisheries affairs.
