Philippines Targets Korea, Japan for Exports of Farmed Eels

As the Philippines ramps up its aquaculture sector, Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala said this week that the government was targeting eel exports as a new growth market.
High demand, but dwindling supplies, in Korea, Japan and Taiwan meant that the Philippines would soon be able to start exporting around $5 million in eel products per year, and develop the sector from there, Alcala said.
The Philippines exported $1.2 billion in fishery products in 2013.
