Oil World analyst expects global fish meal production to fall 10 percent as Peruvian output falls
SEAFOODNEWS.COM [Bloomberg News] By Rudy Ruitenberg - November 25, 2014 -
World fish meal production is forecast to slide 10 percent in the year through September 2015 on falling output in Peru, industry analyst Oil World said.
Output may drop to “an extremely low” 4.12 million metric tons in 2014-15 from 4.6 million tons a year earlier, the Hamburg-based researcher wrote in an e-mailed report today.
The outlook is “highly tentative” due to uncertainty about whether Peru will resume fishing later this season, it said.
Fish meal prices in Peru have jumped to the highest in more than a decade, with spot prime fish meal at $2,360 a ton last week from $1,430 a ton at the start of the year, according to data from Peru Broker SA.
“Market participants are now anxiously awaiting the results of the second Imarpe survey,” Oil World wrote.
