Carl Salamone Joins Tai Foong As Retail Sustainability Advisor, After Retiring from Wegmans

Carl Salamone, recently retired vp of seafood sustainability at Wegmans, has joined Tai Foong, USA, as vp sustainability. He will be working with the Lam family, Seattle-based operators of Tai Foong, as an advisor on retail accounts with an emphasis on sustainability.
“After 51 years (42 years in seafood) with Wegmans, the best supermarket chain in the country, I realized I still have a passion for the seafood industry,” says Salamone. “Joining Tai Foong will enable me to continue to use my experience to contribute to this wonderful industry. I chose Tai Foong because it is a three-generation seafood company with an emphasis on world-wide sourcing of sustainable seafood products.”
Salamone, who started his career with Wegman's at a fish counter, became one of the most respected archetects of a retail seafood sustainability program. Before certifications, and before retailers were judged based on seafood sustainability, Salamone had built a world class operation at Wegmans with exacting standards, both as to product quality, and responsible sourcing.
