New Zealand Orange Roughy Certified by MSC

Most of New Zealand's Orange Roughy Fishery, a frequent target of conservationists who claimed the age structure and slow growth of orange roughy made the fishery unsustainable, has been certified by the Marine Stewardship Council. About 60% of the total catch in New Zealand is in the certification units.
Certification of New Zealand orange roughy - the first orange roughy fisheries globally to be assessed to the MSC Standard - is recognition of over 20 years of management improvements and scientific innovation.
