Alaska Red King Crab Fishery Done at Record Prices, Boats Moving to Pot Cod

A very quick red king crab fishery has wrapped up last week in Alaska, with 98% of the rationalized quota of 7.6 million pounds landed. This compares to 8.9 million pounds last year.
Harvesters caught the crab faster, with CPUE or per pot haul at 37.4 crabs vs. 32 crabs last year.
Jake Jacobsen, executive director of ICE - the crab harvesters association - said fishermen are seeing "the most crab they've seen in years."
"There seems to be a disconnect between the summer survey and what's actually on the grounds."
Some boats are even seeing hauls of 60 to 70 king crab per pot..
