ISSF Strengthens Tuna Sustainability Standards

Washington, D.C. – The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) is tightening up their requirements for tuna purchases to include further restrictions on how tuna are caught, reporting of the catch, and measures to keep tuna vessels and fleets from increasing their capacity.
Today’s announcement describes new measures on the use of non-entangling fish aggregating devices, or FADs; product traceability; and keeping fishing capacity static. The measures impact how nearly thirty global seafood companies do business with vessels on the water, at the processing plant, and in the marketplace.
