Russian Pink Salmon Numbers Show Big Improvement Over 2014; Cold Stores 95% Full In Vladivostok

As of August 1, 2016, the catch of Pacific salmon fisheries in the Far Eastern basin totaled 187.7 thousand. Tons, up 40.3% (54,000 tons) more than the same period in 2014. As pink salmon are on a two year cycle, comparisons are with the comparable cycle year.
Salmon season Staff Head of the Department of Fisheries Andrei Cosmin said the best performance during the fishing season continues to be Kamchatka Territory. The total catch in the region amounted to 123.5 thousand tons, which is 46.7% more than the same period in 2014.
In the Sakhalin region catch was 14.83 thousand tons, 28.7% less than the same period in 2014. Catches in the Khabarovsk Territory was 45.5 thousand tons which is higher than in the previous reporting year by 64.4%. Catches of salmon in the Primorsky Krai, the Magadan Region and the Chukotka Autonomous District was 5.9 thousand tons.
