Alaska House Finance Subcommittee Cuts 14% from Preliminary ADF&G Budget

Alaska’s Department of Fish & Game preliminary budget has left the House Finance Subcommittee with an overall 14 percent cut for fiscal year 2017, which starts July 1, 2016.
The preliminary budget now goes before the House Finance Committee.
In a memo from Rep. Mark Neuman, chair of the subcommittee, to the House Finance Committee, a comparison of savings over FY15's budget was outline. FY15 started July 1, 2014. In that time, ADF&G's budget has been cut by $23.4 million, a nearly 30 percent decrease over two years. During that time, 74 positions have been eliminated within the department.
In this year's budget cuts, moving the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission from independent status to within ADF&G will save $650.4 million, according to the memo. Six positions were eliminated by that move....
