New Research Reveals 26 of 30 Largest Tuna Companies Don't Disclose Accurate Catch Data

Nonprofit financial think tank Planet Tracker just released a research report revealing that only four of the world's 30 largest tuna fishing companies disclose accurate catch data for their fishing operations.

The report, entitled “Tuna Turner: Investors Must Turn Up Transparency in the Tuna Industry,” refers to the 30 largest tuna companies as “the Tuna 30." These companies account for 46% of the total global tuna catch, which amounts to 5.2 million tonnes worldwide, with 1.6 million tonnes accounting for Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified catch...

DFO Announces Details for Second Year of Commercial Redfish Fishery

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) Canada has announced details for the 2025-2026 Unit 1 commercial Redfish fishery, set to open on June 24. The fishery was under a moratorium due to a decline in stock from 1995 until 2024, when it was finally re-opened.  

A Total Allowable Catch (TAC) has been set at 60,000 tonnes for this current season — which covers May 15, 2025, until May 14, 2026.

US Shrimp, Catfish Producers Push Back on Foreign Competition in D.C. Advocacy Effort

The Southern Shrimp Alliance (SSA), the American Honey Producers Association (AHPA) and the Catfish Farmers of America (CFA) took to Capitol Hill in an effort to highlight trade challenges seen in their respective industries.

Specifically, the ad hoc coalition aimed to strengthen support from what they described as “unfair foreign competition” that is hurting US shrimp, honey and catfish producers.

300g Salmon Loin Pulled From Shelves in Norway Due to Listeria Concerns

Norwegian salmon company Sjømathuset AS recalled its Fiskemannen 300-gram salmon loin product due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. The impacted product had a shelf life until June 18, per a notice published on the Norwegian Food Safety Authority (Mattilsynet)’s website.

DHS Reverses Pause on ICE Raids, Targeting Farms, Hotels, and Restaurants

Days after the Trump administration ordered a pause on immigration raids targeting the agriculture and hospitality industries, the Department of Homeland Security has reversed course, authorizing US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to resume worksite enforcement at farms, hotels, and restaurants, according to the Washington Post.

USDA Accepts Section 32 Bids for Atlantic Groundfish and Pacific Pink Shrimp

On June 16, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced formal solicitations for contract bids on commercially available Atlantic Groundfish and Pacific Pink Shrimp.

As is the protocol under the USDA’s Section 32 Program, products purchased through the solicitation will be distributed to various food nutrition assistance programs.

Per the solicitations, groundfish products must be delivered between August 16, 2025, and April 15, 2026. Pink shrimp products must be delivered between August 1, 2025, and October 31, 2025...

Georgia Representatives Call on Secretary Lutnick for Red Snapper Management in South Atlantic

Recently, Congressional representatives from Georgia, led by Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter, sent a letter to Department of Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick calling for state management of red snapper and other reef fish species in the South Atlantic.

The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS) to drive seafood sustainability and responsibility within Korea’s aquaculture sector.

Alaska’s Pre-Bristol Bay Salmon Landings Modest Compared to Pre-Season Forecasts 

As of last Saturday, landings of sockeye salmon in the Copper River District totaled 274,400 fish, delivered during the first seven fishing periods since the season opened May 22, 2025. That number is significantly less than the Alaska Department of Fish & Game’s anticipated harvest of 969,000 fish for that period.

North Pacific Council Delays Action on Bering Sea Chum Salmon Bycatch Due to Funding Uncertainty
