NMFS to transition to mail-in surveys to log recreational fishing data

A transition team has been formed to assist NMFS switch to a mail-in method of measuring recreational fishing efforts along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts.

The announcement follows a multi-year study aimed at finding the most effective ways to collect recreational fishing data in hopes of improving management in the sector.

According to the NMFS the pilot study had three goals:  Identify a better method than random digit dialing (RDD) to reach anglers; determine the best way to use license and registration information in their surveys and establish the most effective methods for maximizing angler response...
