Salmon setnetters in Cook Inlet were shut down on July 17 this year, with about a month — the peak of the season for sockeye salmon — still ahead of them. Sockeye escapement has been good, a reassurance to managers and the fleet that enough fish has gotten past the fishing grounds to spawn and ensure future returns to the area.
