NMFS Delays Skimmer Shrimp Trawl TED Effective Date for South Atlantic, GoM Fisheries
The National Marine Fisheries Service is delaying the final rule implementation date for turtle excluder devices on skimmer shrimp trawl vessels in the Southeastern shrimp fisheries until Aug. 1. NMFS also is considering expanding the rule to include more vessels.
Currently, the rule would apply only to skimmer trawl vessels 40 feet or longer. An expansion of the rule would require TEDs on skimmer trawl boats smaller than 40 feet long.
