Over 60 Years, Salmon Returning to Alaska Rivers are Getting Smaller
Researchers at the University of California at Santa Cruz and University of Alaska, Fairbanks looked at six decades of data — from 1958 to 2018 — from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to learn why salmon size was diminishing over the years. The study was published today in Nature Communications.
The unprecedented data set of over 12.5 million salmon showed patterns of body size changes for Chinook, chum, coho, and sockeye across Alaska.
