Chilean Salmon Farmer Invermar Reports Mass Coho Mortality Due to Algae
Invermar is reporting a mass mortality of coho salmon at their farm in the Quellon, Los Lagos region.
According to Sernapesca, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service, Invermar notified them of the sudden mortality on Thursday. The farm had 937,257 salmon that weighed approximately 780 grams each. Sernapesca reports that “the number of affected fish is being evaluated in the field due to the presence of the microalgae Cochlodinium sp.” Cochlodinium is a species of red tide known for causing fish deaths.
