2019 Gulf of Mexico Shrimp Landings Lowest Since at Least 2000
For the calendar year, 80.8 million pounds of shrimp were landed in the Gulf of Mexico in 2019, about 15 million less than in 2018. The 2019 totals, which were provided by the Fishery Monitoring Branch of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries’ Southeast Fisheries Science Center sat 35 percent below the Southern Shrimp Alliance’s 20-year historical average of 124.6 million pounds.
