U.S. Coast Guard Urging EPIRB Education to Save Lives and Money
The U.S. Coast Guard is urging boaters in Alaska to familiarize themselves with the importance of emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRB) after 16 false alerts have been reported since October of 2018.
EPIRBs are devices that transmit distress signals to the Coast Guard and other first responders. The Coast Guard is encouraging any owner of an EPIRB to register it, and if they are no longer using an EPIRB to dispose of it properly.
