Herring Spotted in Sitka, Fleet on Two-Hour Notice
All eyes are on Sitka as Alaska’s annual ramp up to the herring fishery begins. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reported yesterday that an aerial survey showed herring schools were showing up, but no herring spawn has been seen yet.
The schools were seen by air from Silver Point to Deep Inlet. ADF&G management biologists look for predator activity to help them pinpoint locations.
