Clearwater and 14 First Nations Announce 50 Year Surf Clam Partnership
Fourteen First Nations communities in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador and Clearwater Seafoods announced they have reached a landmark agreement to the benefit of all parties.
The agreement will pay benefits retroactive to January, 2019. It is a new attempt by Clearwater to address the concerns raised by DFO about increasing First Nation Access to the arctic surf clam fishery.
The model in this agreement preserves jobs in Newfoundland at the Grand Banks processing plant, yet gives the First Nation communities significant economic returns,
