Maine has elected a democrat, Janet Mills, to be governor, bringing to a close the period when Paul LePage was governor for eight years.
LePage had a reputation as loud, obnoxious, and contentious, and repeatedly refused to implement programs voted by referendum or the legislature that he didn’t like. But during his terms the seafood industry prospered in Maine, and Commissioner Keliher became a leader in advocating responsible positions for east coast fisheries.
