Italy Threatens to Reject CETA Deal; Canada Confident European Trade Deal will Survive

The Canadian European Trade Agreement (CETA) provisionally went into effect last September after it was approved by the 28 members of the European Union.
It eliminates virtually all tariffs between Canada and the EU, and is highly beneficial for seafood exports from Canada. Among other things, it has opened up southern Europe, including Spain, Italy, and France, to more Canadian lobster products.
However, the treaty still faces obstacles, as it must be ratified separately by each European government.
