A recent McDowell Group study on the economic impact of inshore processing of BSAI groundfish and crab revealed an important truth about Alaska Fisheries: both companies and the state as a whole prosper from diversification.
Although pollock is by far the largest component species by volume, and also the largest single driver of revenue, the contribution of non-pollock species to the processing sector in Unalaska and other communities is vital economically.
