Increase in Ukraine's Fish Imports Likely to Lead to Pollock, Whiting Opportunities for US

Ukraine plans to increase its fish imports from the U.S., Norway and other major fish-producing nations this year, due to a small volume of domestic catch and the ever growing demand for quality fish in the domestic market, according to recent statements of senior Ukranian state officials and industry’s associations.
After the annexation of the Crimea, the volume of fish production in Ukraine fell from 220,000 to 90,000 tonnes per year, figures that also include aquaculture, according to recent statements of the Association of Ukrainian Fish and Seafood Importers Director General Dmitry Zagumenny, who believes these figures are unlikely to grow in years to come.
