Ross Hails NMFS Transfer of Red Snapper Management to States, Ocean Conservancy Not As Thrilled

In a press release dated yesterday, Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross “applauded" the pilot program that transfers authority to management of Gulf red snapper from the federal government to the five Gulf states.
Ross called the two-year program “innovative” in allowing Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Louisiana, and Texas to set its own 2018 and 2019 private angling red snapper season rather than those dates being determined by NMFS. The states will also monitor red snapper landings ...
