Volcanoes, Eelgrass Causing Shallowing of Salmon Habitat in Chignik, Alaska

A NOAA Fisheries study has identified the “likely cause” of the shallowing of the sea floor in Chignik, Alaska: volcanoes and eelgrass.
The study was led by Alaska Fisheries Science Center biologist Mark Zimmermann, who discovered from old hydrographic maps that the seafloor in Chignik was shallowing.
