Charleston-Area Restaurants Scramble to Buy Out-of-Town Oysters in Wake of Sewage Spill

A shortage of local oysters because of a massive raw sewage spill has some Charleston-area restaurants scrambling to find out-of-town suppliers, but the challenging situation so far appears to be manageable.
However, consumers could pay more for oysters while dining out.
Bowens Island Restaurant near Folly Beach will charge $17 for a bucket of oysters - 30 percent more than the usual $13 price - because it had to spend more for oysters from McClellanville and Beaufort, said owner Robert Barber.
