OSU Awarded $673,000 to Research Ocean Acidification

Oregon State University has just been awarded $673,000 to study the effects of ocean acidification (OA) on the region's shellfish industry. OSU is one of three universities to receive two-year grants through NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Regional Vulnerability Assessment Competition.
Ocean acidification is occurring with greater intensity in the Pacific Northwest than anywhere else in the world, OSU researchers say. It disrupts the development of shellfish species and poses threats to regional ecosystems.
The research will focus on the region’s $280 million a year shellfish industry that supports thousands of jobs in the region. OSU has been at the forefront of ocean acidification research nationally.
