Cooke Aquaculture Deeply Regrets Cypress Island Failure, Gives Update on Salmon Recovery Efforts

Almost two months after Cooke Aquaculture Pacific’s net-pen failure, which resulted in the escapement of thousands of salmon, the company has concluded their “initial stage” of response. Since the escapement, 200,927 fish have been accounted for, including 145,851 fish recovered from the damaged net-pen and another 49,892 fish that were retrieved through Cooke’s fish buy-back program.
The facility held 305,000 salmon.
Besides recovery efforts, the company’s initial stage of response “focused on removal and disposal of the damaged structure” and “protection of native salmon stocks.” The company added that they’ve been working with ...
